Screw Sir Paul, NRK delivering Beatles for free
January 5th 2009
NRK beta (via TUAW) reports it will offer all 212 Beatles songs one-at-a-time via its popular Vår daglige Beatles (Our Daily Beatles) podcast.
Some weeks ago, NRK--Norwegian Broadcasting--signed a deal with music rights holder organisation TONO in Norway. The new deal gives NRK right to publish podcasts of all previously broadcasted radio- and tv-programs that contains less then 70% music.
Thereupon, each Our Daily Beatles podcast, originally broadcast on NRK starting 2001, presents a three-minute story about and then the song itself for every Fab Four track. And, you may view / download (RSS) the 14 currently available podcasts, which are in 128Kbps mp3 format.
NRK promises that all 212 songs / podcasts will be available by the end of January.
Last week, Sir Paul McCartney said that whatever the problem preventing the Beatles catalog from going on sale via iTunes was, "I think we're right, because we're The Beatles!"
Well, Macca, the Beatles catalog is already available via iTunes and, though the bit rate is "only" 128K, all of those songs are free.
How do you like them apples?
