IBM readying Lotus Symphony for Mac

InfoWorld reports that IBM expects to formally release the Mac-compatible version of Lotus Symphony, yet another variation on the open-source OpenOffice code base, later this month.

Lotus Symphony also runs on various iterations of Windows, as well as RedHat 5, Suse 10 and Ubuntu 8.

Lotus Symphony 1.2 for Mac beta is currently available and can be downloaded here (Intel only, 197.7MB).

In related news, IBM's Lotus Notes 8.5 beta is also available.

Editor's note: Currently, OpenOffice, StarOffice, ThinkFree Office, NeoOffice (the most mature and useable) and now Symphony--all variations on the same open source code base--are all available for the Mac. At what point does "choice" become a senseless duplication of resources?
