Mac sales recover in December

Although the real data won't be release until Wednesday, January 21, fresh market indicates that Apple will report good results for the final frame of 2008.

Quoting NPD data and Gene Munster, Fortune reports that December Mac sales rebounded nicely from a double-digit slide in November, resulting from unsubstantiated rumors that Apple (later uncharacteristically denied) would update its iMac and Mac mini product lines.

"We have analyzed NPD data for all three months of the December quarter, which is up 8% year-on-year--in line with the Street at 8%," said Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. "We believe this data will be perceived as a slight positive given the rebound in the month of December to +4 percent year-on-year."

➲ Mac--2.5 to 2.6 million
➲ iPod--18.6 million
➲ iPhone--6.4 million

NPD does not collect cellphone data, though Munster say he expects that Apple shifted 6.4-million iPhones in the holiday quarter.
