iPhone Flash Missing, but Not Forgotten
February 1st 2009
Adobe's CEO Narayen illustrates to Bloomberg why we still don't have Flash on the iPhone. It's no easy task, describing it as a "hard technical challenge." Jobs last spring himself tossed cold water on Flash expectations noting current market products aren't a fit with the iPhone. The task seems well out of bounds for the standard iPhone software development kit developers currently use for iPhone apps.
Narayen indicated Apple is working with Adobe, and certainly there is a market for it. As more and more mobile devices gain the full Web experience, Flash software that can work within that footprint will be in increasing demand. Even for light devices that currently support Flash likely will benefit.
iPhone users will attest that Flash, the standard via ubiquitous, is a major component to a typical Web experience. Even though users may be missing out more on ads and cheeky graphics than substance, it still remains as a bit of a thorn to the iPhone's "full Web."
