8 GB iPhone 3GS in the works?
August 6th 2009
Murmurs suggestion Apple is planning a third iPhone 3GS.
Currently the lowest priced iPhone is the 8GB iPhone 3G, which was also the low-end 3G prior to the iPhone 3GS release. That handset is selling for $99, and even cheaper at AT&T for $49 refurbished for qualifying customers. Apple may be adding another step between the $199 16 GB iPhone 3GS, or perhaps replacing the 3G.
Boy Genius Report has a screen grab of an email announcing the pending release. The internal email comes from Canadian provider Rogers. The email indicates the new black device with sku and the apparent phase out of the 3G model.
While no sales figures are available, the $99 3G model appears to be popular item. Apple could have been clearing out inventory, with plans to release the 3GS. Or perhaps seeing the success of the $99 phone, decided to take it up a notch with an upgrade. We'll have to see what gets released at what price.
