Opera wants to bring new browser to the iPhone
February 10th 2010
Next week Opera will announce the Opera Mini for the iPhone OS. That much appears certain, however, will Apple approve it?
At the Mobile World Congress next week in Barcelona, Opera will show off its upcoming Opera Mini for the iPhone. The new browser will run on other mobile devices, but specifically the announcement will for the iPhone. Opera did not disclose which other handsets will demoed,
Opera states the browser will run up to 6 times faster than the iPhone's built-in Safari, Also, Opera Mini should be attractive for those paying for their bandwidth, as apparently the software will allow browsing bandwidth to be reduced up to 90-percent. Opera Mini does not appear to support Flash.
"We are thrilled to offer journalists and partners an exclusive preview of Opera Mini for iPhone during the year's biggest mobile event," said Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder, Opera Software. "This is a unique opportunity to introduce the fast, feature-rich Opera Mini experience for the iPhone, and to showcase our latest beta releases of Opera Mobile and Opera Mini on other platforms and devices. Opera's mission is to bring the Web to the world, and by making Opera Mini available on yet another platform, we are one step closer."
Interesting!
Other than competing with Safari, there doesn't appear to be any reason for Apple to deny the app's approval. Many people, however, assume the worst from the Cupertino-based company. We will see.
