Comcast adds remote DVR controls it iPhone app
March 2nd 2010
Comcast's app acts as a hub for the company's video, voice, and data services. Now the just released version 2.0 of the app adds new DVR control functions for select markets.
Previously Comcast customers could use the iPhone OS app to manage their Comcast voice mail, sync address book, access email, view TV listings, and watch trailers for on-demand programming.
The new remote functions, dubbed rDVR, are available in select markets. The new app allows users to search for specific programs, and then schedule the recording. Users can also view scheduled recordings, cancel and create new recordings, and also switch between multiple DVRs. Other new features include a quick record feature to instantly record what's going on.
"The Comcast Mobile app is part of our vision to enable customers to enjoy their video, voice and data services wherever and from whatever device. Now our customers can easily program their DVR no matter their location, making our mobile app a 'one stop shop' for our services while on the go," said Cathy Avgiris, SVP and General Manager, Communications and Data Services, Comcast. "In this age of anywhere, anytime communication, people want to stay connected, and our mobile app allows them to do that."
The rDVR features are currently available in PA, DE, VA, MD, MA, AR, TN, AZ, and UT with additional marketing being rolled out. The app is free for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and require compatible Comcast services.
