July issue of Wired hits iTunes, cuts the price

Last month saw the inaugural issue of Wired Magazine on the IPad. It was generally well reviewed and we enjoyed it, but not the $4.99 price. Version 1.1 adds a few new features and improves on that price.

Users can now download some sample material, which appears to be from the June issue, for free. Also the app is now stand-alone and not issue specific. The periodical now consists of basically a small shell app. Once loaded, users can download the free edition or purchase/view any specific issues. Other new features include an in-app Web browser and a 360 Panorama for July. To top it off Wired has trimmed the price to $3.99, which is getting closer to winning our hearts and minds.

This is a nice evolution of the product. Rather than having to seek out a new app each month, now readers can easily find the latest or any issue right in the app. This is also handy for organizing all your monthly editions on your iPad. The price cut is also nice, but we would suggest if not matching the printed subscription price of less than $1 an issue, at least discount previous issues. Either way, $0.99 would make us believers.
