Consumer Reports find iPhone 4 antenna defective

Product testing firm issued their recommendation on the iPhone 4. Despite initially calling the claims of antenna issues over-blown, Consumer Reports has reversed its stance and describe the iPhone 4 antenna as having a design defect.

The magazine published on its blog Monday further tests done in its lab that confirm experiences of IGM and countless other iPhone 4 owners. Consumer Reports tested three different phones and compared them to other phones on the market, including Apple's own iPhone 3GS. The publication found the other phones did not exhibit such a drop in signal, which may result in dropped call or loss of data.

Consumer Reports also criticized Apple's claims that the problems are a result of how the phone represents signal bars. Furthermore, CR indicated that laying any blame on AT&T may be misplaced.

Consumer Reports said while the iPhone 4 scored high on its other features, it is recommending the iPhone 3GS as an alternative for call quality.
