VLC player now available for iPhone

The VLC app, which was released for the iPad last month, is now available for the iPhone. The update adds universal support for iPhone and iPod Touch in addition to the iPad. Along with the added device support, version 1.1 incorporates the ability to delete files from within the application. Previously users had to go through the iTunes sync process to remove media files. The update also offers other improvements and fixes.

VLC is an iOS version of the popular free media player. Basically VLC syncs with your computer via the iTunes File Sharing option, allowing users to load up videos. What's different than the built-in iPad video player is VLC will play a wide-range of codecs. All these codes mean you won't have to transcode video in order to sync it via the conventional iTunes.
