Apple TV update adds MLB and NBA streaming, 5.1 Netflix audio
March 9th 2011
Apple pumped out a bunch of updates today, the final being some love for the Apple TV. Version 4.2 has a number of interesting additions, including support for the subscription-based MLB and NBA streaming services.
For $20/mo for MLB and $65/season for NBA, Apple TV users can stream live games and have on-demand access to content. This is great for these pro sports fans looking to perhaps cut or reduce their cable/dish service without missing a beat
Other new features offer 5.1 Dolby audio for Netflix streaming. The Apple TV update also of course brings the living room hub up to speed on the latest changes for AirPlay in iOS 4.3 and iTunes 10.2.
Lastly, Apple TV 4.2 brings some security fixes for vulnerabilities. Holes plugged include an exploit where an attacker on the same network could reset the device, a fix for IPv6, and a couple fixes for maliciously crafted TIFF files.
