ATT to offer $5/mo insurance on iPhones

When the iPhone first came out, ATT wouldn't insure it through its conventional monthly plan. Presumably, the newfangled glass phone would result in lots of claims. Companies, however, like Square Trade stepped up and offered insurance that go beyond Apple's warranty.

AT&T's monthly insurance service costs $5/mo with a deductible of $50 or $125. The protection covers theft, manage (including liquid), and device failure. MacRumors notes that Apple, however, is known to repair busted phones for $199.

Please Note: AT&T Mobile Insurance Update: Effective July 17, 2011, the Apple iPhone (all models) will be eligible for coverage with the AT&T Mobile Insurance program (formerly Wireless Phone Insurance). Enrollment restrictions apply. Customers can only enroll within 30 days of a new activation or upgrade, prior activations or upgrades outside of 30 days are not eligible.
