MacBook Air gets update, MacBook get retired

The new MacBook Air gets the Sandy Bridge Core i5 and i7 treatment, in addition to Thunderbolt. With the update, Apple has also eliminated the MacBook from its lineup, now making the slim laptop the entry portable computer slot.

The MacBook Air retains its 11 and 13-inch sizes with a base configurations starting at 1.6 GHz and 64GB of storage. A custom build option for a dual-core 1.8 GHz i7 is available on the upper 128 GB/256 GB models.

All MacBook Air models now include a Thunderbolt port, which makes it compatible with Apple's new Thunderbolt Display and any future products. This model also gains a back-lit keyboard.

Pricing starts out at $999 and rises up to $1599 for the top end with additional options available.
