CNN's free QT stream goes dark


Well, it has finally happened -- we can no longer watch CNN news stories for free using the QuickTime player. Clicking a video/story link in the player will cause your browser to launch and display the following message:

"Thank you for selecting CNN.com video, which is now available only with a subscription. This allows us to offer more video at a higher quality than ever before.

We're confident that you will pleased with these new video services, which take you to the scene of the world's top news stories and events as only CNN can.

If you do elect to subscribe to CNN News Pass (US$4.95/month) you can still choose to view clips and reports in the QT format.

Editor's note: The Internet isn't what it once was -- free and footloose. It was wishful thinking to believe the free ride would continue forever.
