Better iPod Batteries for Half the Price of Apple's
December 20th 2004
Our friends at Other World Computing sent us this missive about their higher-capacity batteries for iPods. If you're an iPod 1G or 2G owner-driver, then your battery life might have shortened dramatically by now.
Enter the OWC/Newer Tech batteries. Whereas Apple's battery changeover service is $99, OWC's 1600mAh batteries are a mere $34.99, while the more powerful 2100mAh model is $39.95.
With the 2100mAh model, some users report close to an incredible 20 hours playing time.
Better still, you can replace it yourself or, if you're leery about getting up close and personal with your iPod, any of OWC's or Newer Tech's service centres can do it for you (or your local third-party Apple reseller, for that matter).
Analysis: Bite the bullet and do it yourself - plenty of instructions posted around the web. While we hate to chisel Apple out of some dough, wethinks they may be engaging in the ancient sport of 'gouging'...
