iTMS buys: Five great classic rock albums...

All of the albums profiled here deliver songs at $0.60 or less per track. Purchasing music using the links provided helps support Insanely-Great Mac.

It's been repeated so many times, some people are starting to believe it--Apple's iTunes Music Store prices are high. Whether its Gorog and his mindless math or the ever-whinging "Real CEO", there are plenty of high-profile voices 'dissing Apple's iTMS pricing.

Well, here are five examples where you'll pay well-under Apple's $0.99 advertised price. I've selected five great classic rock albums that deliver--you own it--value-pricing that Napster and Real simply can't match:

Artist: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Album: Greatest Hits
Price, tracks: $9.99 , 18 songs
Cost per track: $0.56
For more information, click here.

Artist: Jimi Hendrix
Album: The Best of Jimi Hendrix
Price, tracks: $9.99, 20 songs
Cost per track: $0.50
For more information, click here.

Artist: The Doobie Brothers
Album: Live at Wolf Trap
Price, tracks: $9.99, 17 songs
Cost per track: $0.59
For more information, click here.

Artist: The Who
Album: Tommy (Remastered)
Price, tracks: $11.99, 24 songs
Cost per track: $0.50
For more information, click here.

Artist: John (Cougar) Mellencamp
Album: Words & Music--John Mellencamp's Great Hits
Price, tracks: $11.99, 37 songs
Cost per track: $0.33
For more information, click here.

Clearly, the "best value" of this bunch is John Mellencamp's Words & Music at $0.33 per track. Nevertheless, you won't find a dog in the lot and the prices are none too shabby, even for the relatively expensive Doobie Brothers live set (2005 release) at $0.59 per track.

Editor's note: If you purchase any of the above music using the links provided, it won't cost you a penny more than seeking them out yourself. I do, however get a commission.

Of the above listed albums, I have purchased those listed for Tom Petty and The Who.

Depending on the response (reader feedback, not sales), I hope to run "iTMS buys" as a regular feature on IGM.
