Et tu, PowerMac?
March 30th 2005
MacRumors is carrying an unattributed rumor that states that new PowerMacs will be released in mid-April. Here's a listing of the specs said to be coming our way:
• 2, 2.5 and 3 GHz models
• Support for up to 32GB RAM
• HyperTransport 2
• PCI-E
• A "new" audio processor
• Blu-Ray "SuperDrives"
Of course, this isn't the first multicore processor spoor we've caught wind of. Nor is this the first that we've "cleaned faster PowerMacs at NAB" droppings from our boot cleats.
Lastly, a single line in MacRumors' report intimates that a "HD" (high-definition video) PowerBook will be debuted at the event, as well. His Steveness said at MWSF that this would be the year of HD.
Editor's note: The write up makes no mention of CPU configuration. That is, we don't know if there will be dual multi-core processors or singles. It can be inferred from the 32GB max memory that dual, dual-core systems are coming (ie 8GB per CPU).
I would like to venture an informed guess, but the news out of East Fishkill has been very, very sparse of late. Then again, Libyan Ghadafi reportedly once said, "I don't worry when Americans talk--I worry when they stop talking."
So, perhaps something big is coming our way. HyperTransport 2, PCI-E, quad-3GHz-processor systems would be very big. Akin to bombing the competition into submission... n'est ce pas?
What's your take?
