Sunncomm Intros DVCD Hybrid
September 9th 2005
A new acronym for you: the DVCD. MacBidouille reports that SunnComm has introduced this hybrid format, which contains support for both CD and DVD formats on the same side of a single disc.
Previous hybrids, which are fairly widely available as video/audio DVD/CDs, have had one side CD audio formatted, while the other side is DVD-Video.
SunnComm's DVCD reportedly reduces manufacturing costs by combining the two on a single side of the disc.
Commercial versions of the disc will - you guessed it - support copy protection for both audio and video content, but apparently the copy protection scheme will work on both PCs and Macs.
