Apple Ponders 99¢ TV Show Downloads
September 8th 2007
Television Week reports that Apple is considering lowering prices for TV shows to 99¢. The news comes in the wake of NBC's departure from iTunes and a very public spat between the network and Apple.
Variety, which sourced the story originally, writes that Apple believes that a price cut would improve sales of TV shows 'dramatically'. NBC will be offering its shows on Amazon for $1.99.
Analysis: Would you be more likely to purchase more episodes if the price came down to 99¢? The question is whether the networks can be convinced of this. These days, with iPod, iPhone and iTS, Apple is the reverse of the 'old' Apple: it's consistently cutting prices to drive volume and new sales.
