That's a lot of 'loonies'

DigitalJournal brings our friends North of the border both good and bad news. The bright side of their story is that the iPhone may begin selling there in two weeks and it will run on a GSM network.
The bad news, assuming this rumor is worth repeating, is that an 8GB model will carry a suggested retail price of C$799. Apple sells an EDGE-compatible version of the 8GB iPhone in the US for $399.
The write up states that Holt Renfrew, a luxury goods retailers, will distribute and Rogers will be the network provider for the iPhone in the rapidly thawing frozen North.
Editor's note: With the Canadian and US dollars trading roughly at par, even a 16GB at that price would still be too steep.
Also, if GSM is indeed coming, I expect a lively market for unlocked phones as European buyers balk over Apple's EDGE-only offering across the pond...
What's your take?
