Mac share rockets to 8.1%

Quoting Gartner research date, BusinessWire reports that the Mac's share of the US market was 8.1 percent in calendar Q3. However, International Data Corp data pegs the Mac's share at 6.3 percent for the same period.
Whether Apple garnered 8.1 or 6.3 percent of market, its unit volume earned the No 3 spot on both Gartner and IDC' US rankings. The rest of the Top 5 was HP, Dell, Toshiba and Gateway--the latter saw its share sales and share fall markedly.
Using the Gartner data, the Mac's share grew 37.2 percent year-over-year--twice the rate of growth of other members of the Top 5.
