Intel to launch Penryn Jan 6
December 5th 2007
DailyTech claims that Intel will release new 45nm Penryn-based Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme dual-core processors on Jan 6.
It's highly plausible that the chips could make their first appearance at CES 2008 (January 7, 2008) with further unveils at MacWorld 2008 in Apple's oft-rumored tablet, revamped MacBook Pros or refreshed iMac desktops.
According to the write up, the processors use in current MacBook Pros--Core 2 Duo T7500, T7700, T7800 (65nm Merom)--will be phased out in favor of the new T8300, T9300 and T9500, which are 45nm and run at a cool 35W.
Likewise, the current iMac uses Core 2 Duo T7250, T7700 and Core 2 Extreme X7900 processors which are being replaced by the T8100, T9300 and X9000.
It's widely expected that revised Mac Pro desktops with Penryn processors will be announced at Macworld San Francisco.
Editor's note: Apple just updated its MacBook, MBP and iMac product lines. Will they make the leap to Penryn this fast in its prosumer and consumer products, or will Cupertino reserve these faster / cooler processors for the Mac Pro?
With sales soaring, safe money would bet against such a move...
