iPod takes a slug for GI

Flikr is carrying a very, very interesting picture of an iPod purportedly destroyed in the line of duty. According to poster tikigod, a GI on foot patrol in Tikrit in April came face-to-face with an insurgent, both men fired but only the grunt walked away.

The two of them were within just a few feet of each other when they opened fire. The insurgent was killed and [the GI] was hit in the left chest where his [20GB] iPod was in his jacket pocket. It slowed the bullet down enough that it did not completely penetrate his body armor. Fortunately, [he] suffered no wound.

An update at the bottom of the post states that an "Apple engineer" is aware of the valiant music player's sacrifice and that an effort is underway to get the soldier a fresh iPod.

In tangentially related news, Flikr Uploader 3.0 is available for download.

Editor's note: All the makings of an urban legend? You bet.

But, true or not, it's a great story...
