Mac Use for Internet Access at All-Time High
January 1st 2008
Net Applications' latest data shows that Mac using Net Applications' surveyed websites have achieved market share of 7.3%. This compared with 6.8% in November and 6.03% in June. Mac share has risen more than one percentage point since January 2007.
More than half Apple's share (4% of hits) are from Intel-based Macs, while PowerPC is falling behind, at around 3.3%. Apple's iPhone (0.12%) also has double the web usage of Windows CE-based systems. iPod Touch is at 0.02%, one third of Windows CE, but it has only been around a fraction of the time.
As expected, Windows topped the survey, with 91.8% of hits, while Linux amassed only 0.63%. In fact, iPhone usage for internet access is already almost 20% of Linux usage, according to these data.
Most other OSes, Nintendo excepted, didn't score highly enough to break the 0.00% barrier.
