iPhone in Equatorial Guinea?
February 2nd 2008
In addition to its regular browser and OS data share data, Net Applications is also offering ranked iPhone web usage stats for countries worldwide and its intriguing information to say the least.
Here are the Top 10 countries and territories:
01 Equatorial Guinea 2.21%
02 Ivory Coast 0.47%
03 Trinidad & Tobago 0.25%
04 Maldives 0.24%
05 United States 0.20%
06 French Polynesia 0.19%
07 Brunei Darussalam 0.19%
08 Armenia 0.15%
09 Cameroon 0.14%
10 Greenland 0.14%
Who even knew that Equatorial Guinea had wireless web connectivity or that there were iPhone users there tearing up the net?
And, who would have thought that the US with at least two-million iPhone users, half of all sales, would only rank fifth? The story of US users' appetite for content is legend, but it's only a tenth of far away (and tiny) Guinea.
Lastly, the other countries where the iPhone is "legal"--France (17), UK (19), Germany (28)--are all well down the list.
Missing no more
So, the question of where all of those AWOL iPhones, 27 percent of the total or about one-million units, has apparently been solved--they're everywhere.
All of this points to a couple hard questions for Apple:
1.) Do any iPhone buyers really want a friggin' contract and the high associated costs?
2.) When will the GSM version of the iPhone ship (the world wants to know)?
It's becoming pretty clear that Apple needs to greatly broaden availability and do it quickly...
