NAB: Death of a tradeshow?
February 7th 2008
TV Technology brings us news that Apple will not have a booth at this year's North Association of Broadcasters show in Lost Wages, which has hosted major product announcements from the company in recent years.
"Apple is participating in fewer trade shows this year," said Anuj Nayar, senior manager, PR, Apple. "Often there are better ways to reach our customers. The increasing popularity of our retail stores and Apple.com Web site allows us to directly reach more than 100 million customers around the world in innovative new ways."
This does not mean that folks from Apple won't be in attendance--it's common for companies without booths often rent suites in nearby hotels or offer off-site events.
"We're talking about some on-site business opportunities with Apple," said NAB spokesman Dennis Wharton.
Nevertheless, taken together with the fact that Avid won't have a booth either, it would seem obvious that the writing's on the wall for yet another major technology trade show...
