Fresh 3G iPhone details
April 29th 2008
Yesterday, IGM reported that Hon Hai had been confirmed as the maker of Apple's upcoming 3G iPhone with 3-million units to be delivered in June and up to 25-milion over the life of the contract.
Quoting much of the same info is a write up from CENS (Taiwan) that also adds some tasty, tasty details about the physical characteristics of Apple's next-gen handset:
• Plastic housing vs today's Aluminum-Magneseum
• 110 ~ 120 grams vs 158 grams
• Smaller 2.8" LCD vs 3.5"
So, the 3G iPhone will be lighter and a lot cheaper for Apple to make? I can easily grasp a move to plastic and cheaper, but a smaller screen? That seems counterintuitive given that the iPhone's success to date has been due in large part to the size of its display...
What's your take?
