HBO coming to iTunes
May 12th 2008
Reuters reports that HBO is expected to start selling shows on iTunes, with flexible pricing, said an unnamed source familiar with the discussions.
Episodes of some HBO shows are likely to be sold at more than the standard price of $1.99 per episode, the source said, marking the first time Apple has agreed to selling content at different prices in the US.
Aside from music in Japan, Apple has to date strongly resisted variable pricing.
Previously, NBC pulled its content from iTunes reportedly due to the issue of variable pricing.
Editor's note: All TV sucks (so sayeth the curmudgeon). But, in a world of gray, HBO content in general sucks less.
Maybe that's how Apple convinced itself to lower its variable pricing defenses?
