Rogers: No unlimited data plans? [u]
June 27th 2008
When Rogers, Canada's largest wireless carrier, would bring the iPhone to the Great White North, there were hopes that the company would break new wireless plan ground and deliver unlimited data--a marque feature of Apple's hot-selling handheld.
Unlike every other country and carrier tapped to offer the iPhone, Rogers is saying "no" to unlimited and doesn't even list one as an option. In fact, the maximum data offered--for C$115 per month--anyone will be able to get North of the border is 2GB, an amount that a power user could easily chew through in a single day.

Also, although each plan does include SMS, none the packages listed could be described as "generous."
[u] Rogers has fired back (Electronista) at the torrent of criticism leveled at the company over its expensive and poorly endowed iPhone plans, saying that "Unlimited plans could end up costing customers more for what they don't use," and that "Our iPhone plans more than accommodate the vast majority of customers." [u]
In related news, AT&T has published details for iPhone family plans, all of which include unlimited data with prices starting at $80 for 700 minutes and 200 SMS.
Editor's note: News that Rogers doesn't even offer the option of unlimited data is disheartening. It wouldn't surprise me if they changed their tune given the storm of protest raised by their expensive and poorly endowed plans...
