Mac share down, iPhone up
August 1st 2008
June online traffic data showed the Mac with a 7.94% share, up nearly a half percent from May. According to Net Applications data for July, users of the fairer platform now account for 7.76% of the web traffic measured.
The percentage of traffic attributable to iPhone users has again risen from 0.16% to 0.19%--one of the biggest jumps in recent months. Adding iPhone and Mac numbers puts OS X's share at just shy of 8%. Last month's combined number was 8.1%.
Linux continued its upward growth trend in July, rising to 0.88% from June's 0.8%--that means that the number of users measured increased by 10% month-to-month. That's an impressive rise.
It has been expected for some weeks, but Firefox has yet to crack the 20% market share threshold, stalling just North of 19%. Like Mac share, Safari's share also saw a small retreat in July.
Here's the browser Top 5:
01 Internet Explorer--73.02% (73.01%)
02 Firefox--19.22 (19.03)
03 Safari--6.14 (6.31)
04 Netscape--0.69 (0.67)
05 Opera--0.69 (0.73)
And, yes, Opera did see a significant fall last month, getting bumped from the No 4 spot by the now discontinued Netscape.
Editor's note: It's worth mentioning that Net Applications data often bounces inconsistently from month-to-month. Long-term trends for the Mac, Firefox and Opera have been overwhelmingly positive--next month likely will see big upside bumps for these three products...
