Prices and part numbers posted?
October 14th 2008
MacRumors is reporting that new Apple-branded portable SKUs and prices have begun showing in Best Buy's inventory system, a mini event that has prefaced all "Designed in California" product launches (perhaps we should think of its as Apple's first big opportunity of the day to wince).
And, without further ado, here are the numbers:
>> K29, MB382LL/A $899.00 - MacBook
>> M97, MB466LL/A $1,299.00 - MacBook
>> M97, MB467LL/A $1,599.00 - MacBook
>> M96, MB543LL/A $1,799.00 - MacBook Air
>> M96, MB940LL/A $2,499.00 - MacBook Air
>> M98, MB470LL/A $1,999.00 - 15" MacBook Pro
>> M98, MB471LL/A $2,499.00 - 15" MacBook Pro
>> M88, MB766LL/A $2,799.00 - 17" MacBook Pro
If these numbers and prices are accurate, then I'm quite disappointed in Apple's strategy--a single model stranded below a grand and no other apparent price moves. It's business as usual--some more juice for the same money--with the exception of a little wiggle at the bottom of the range.
Here's hoping the information available is A) either wrong, or B) the firestorm of protest it kicks up will force Apple (fat change, I know) to reconsider before Steve takes the stage...
What's your take?
