Cruz: High-octane WebKit riffing
October 29th 2008
Cruz (pronounced kroōz) is another WebKit-based browser that brings yet more twists on the open-source core that underpins Apple's Safari.
The big feature, for me at least, is GreaseMonkey integration. And, according to Wired, all of the scripts they tried just worked, which is a very good and Mac-like thing to do.
Here's longer listing of what's notable in Cruz:
✏ Open Plug-in Architecture
✏ Built-in Userscripting
✏ Userstyles
✏ ÜberView for Plug-in Split Views
✏ Global Keyboard Shortcut
✏ Single-Window Browsing Mode
✏ BrowsaBrowsa Plug-in for Sidebars
✏ Session Restore
✏ Full-Screen Mode
✏ Customizable Shortcuts
✏ Integrated Gears-loading (InputManager)
✏ Hidden "Closed" Windows
✏ Thumbnail Plug-in for CoverFlow
✏ TinyURL creation/expansion
✏ Automatic Software Updates
✏ Custom User-Agent Strings
✏ Full WebInspector
✏ Custom Window Opacity / Level / Style
Haven't tried it, but I think where Cruz's multi-pane display paradigm will really shine is when used on large, wide-format monitors--ie Apple's Cinema Display product line.
