Nature abhors a vacuum

TechCrunch started a fast-spreading wildfire that began with just these few simple words:
We've received multiple (if thin) reports that Apple is working on a search engine of some sort.
Yes, there's an article--several hundred more words--associated with that single sentence, but it all riffs on that one incomplete and unsubstantiated thought.
For what it's worth, I believe that we're reading about this rumor because the blogsphere doesn't have anything else to report about Apple--it reeks of desperation. Since the computer and widget maker quashed rumors of an imminent iMac and Mac mini refresh, there hasn't been anything of note to write about that purportedly can be traced back to Cupertino.
Yes, nature abhors a vacuum and will fill it with whatever isn't nailed down.
