Apple rolls out updated MacBook

Apple Tuesday refreshed its slim 12-inch MacBook. Changes include newer Intel Skylake CPU/GPU, faster memory, faster PCIe storage, and a new Rose Gold finish. Also improved is the battery life, which give users up to an extra hour of run time.

Graphics performance seemed to be a sticking point with the original 12-inch MacBook, and this year's model offers 25% improved performance. Apple hasn't quantified performance with the CPU, storage, and memory so we'll have to wait for benchmarks. A custom build-to-order model top out with a dual 1.3 GHz Intel Core M7.

Unchanged for some reason is still a 480p FaceTime camera. Apple is also still sticking with a single USB-C port. Also, pricing appears to be unchanged.

I spend a ton of time on my MacBook Air, so I've been eyeing the MacBook as my potential next laptop. I like the smaller/lighter design and Retina display, however, performance been lacking in the new Intel Core M processors that prioritize efficiency over horsepower. I don't need a lot of power, but I also don't really want to go backwards. I'll be curious to see benchmarks.
