AT&T extends service discount to all iPhones?

In a surprising development, AT&T seems to be extending service discounts to all iPhone accounts.

The original iPhone has always been excluded from most AT&T Premiere/FAN discount programs. Those customers enjoy a $60/mo service with EDGE and 200 SMS bucket, while 3G users are charged an extra $15 for faster data and said SMS.

Monday evening, however, we noticed and confirmed with others that AT&T is now registering appropriate discount. Confusing still, however, some 3G users who previously didn't have a discount may also be getting FAN discounts. It seems it depends on your contract and/or your tenacity to get the discount. Either way, it seems all qualifying iPhone customers may be getting their discounts registered, provided the account is under a promotion.

AT&T discounts can be found as a perk for employees or memberships. The actual discount will depend on individual contracts, and stipulations will vary. We found it seems the discount is only extended to voice minutes and not data, although while poking around the AT&T store, it does seem there is a discount on new 3G data plans.

Users can check their rate plan on their AT&T online account.
