New built-to-order iMacs now available from Apple

Friday morning Apple started taking orders and pre-orders for its new iMacs. The 2012 models feature an all-new thin design, plus Ivy Bridge CPUs with NVIDIA graphics, optional Fusion Drive, and USB 3.0.

The 21.5-inch model is available now with CPU configuration of up to 3.1 GHz quad-core i7 CPUs, and a GT 650M GPU with 512 MB GDDR5 memory. There is also an optional Fusion Drive with a 5400 RPM HDD and SSD drive as one logical volume.

The 27-inch model is available for pre-order with currently lead times reaching into late December. Options on the larger iMac are a 3.4 GHz quad-core i7 CPU and custom build GTX 680MX GPU with 2 GB GDDR5 memory. The 27-inch iMac supports up to 32 GB of memory and it too has the Fusion drive option. On the larger iMac, however, the Fusion Drive ships with a 7200 RPM HDD and with a total of 3 TB storage.
