New iPad Pro 10.5-inch, 12.9-inch

Apple today introduced an all-new 10.5-inch iPad Pro and a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, featuring the world's most advanced display with ProMotion technology and incredible performance with the new A10X Fusion chip. The new 10.5-inch model reduces the borders by nearly 40 percent to fit into an incredibly compact package that still weighs just one pound. Combined with powerful new iPad features in iOS 11 coming this fall, like the all-new Files app, customizable Dock, improved multitasking and deeper integration of Apple Pencil, iPad Pro gives users the ability to be even more productive and creative.

It looks like the 10.5-inch iPad is about the same size as the 9.7-inch model, just with a reduced bezel. That pretty attractive, and probably a preview of a getting bigger while being smaller design that we may see this fall with the next iPhone. The 12.9-inch iPad is just kind of massive to hold, so the up-sized standard iPad seems more for me. Pricing also seems attractive at $650 for a reasonable 64 GB WiFi model. $150 more gets the 12.9-inch base model.

The A10X CPU offers up to 30-percent faster CPU and 40-percent faster GPU. The screen also gets updated for HDR support and a faster refresh rate on the screen. All together, the iPads still offer up to 10 hour battery life.

That screen refresh rate doubled from 60 Hz to 120 Hz. This appears to be geared towards improving the response time of the Apple Pencil.

iOS 11 will offer a lot of iPad-specific features. Apple has been giving the iPad a lot of attention trying to bridge the gap between tablet and laptop. iOS 11 looks to introduce more intuitive gestures to help with multitasking and generally working between apps. A new Files app works with iCloud and other cloud services. And handwriting from the Apple Pencil will now be searchable.
