Report: Next iPhone A-series iPhone chips go into mass production
May 23rd 2018
Apple and its chip fabrication partner TSMC reportedly have begun mass production of the next iPhone processor. Likely named A12, the new process is expected to the be the heart of the next iPhone. It will use a new fabrication process to improve efficiency.
The processor, likely to be called the A12 chip, will use a 7-nanometer design that can be smaller, faster and more efficient than the 10-nanometer chips in current Apple devices like the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, the people said.
This is noteworthy in that the next iPhone cycle is beginning and that Apple is partnering again with TSMC rather than competitor Samsung for its A-series chip needs.
