Bendable glass screens

Corning, the maker of Gorilla Glass used in the iPhone displays, is working on bendable glass displays. The news comes from a Wired interview with Corning's John Bayne. Presumably, if Corning succeeds in creating a markable product, we may see such a capability in a future iPhone. New phones with foldable displays are coming to market, however, they use plastic displays.

The Verge:

Bayne’s comments come as two key Android phone manufacturers have announced their first foldable phones, the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X. However, both of these devices use plastic screens in order to achieve their form factor. Although the Mate X’s screen offered comparable friction and responsiveness to a glass screen, its ability to resist scratches remains untested.

The glass aims to have a tight 5mm bend radius and a 1mm thickness. Bayne said Corning is providing early samples to vendors and hopes to have a product available in a couple of years.
