Disney announces streaming service for November

Disney announced its own long-awaited streaming service. The service was announced a few weeks after Apple announced Apple TV+, which too is launching this fall. Disney, however, announced its pricing at $6.99.

Variety:

At launch, Disney+ will include 7,500 episodes, 25 original series, 400 library movie titles, and 100 recent theatrical films releases, according to Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+. That includes 30 seasons of "The Simpsons," which Disney obtained rights to through the acquisition of 21st Century Fox. In year five, it expects to have an annual production slate of some 50 originals.

Disney has a massive content library, which it can leverage without licensing fees. The $6.99 price is very competitive to market leader Netflix, so it will be interesting where Apple TV+ lands.

Disney is also expected to offer a bundling package with its ESPN+ streaming service and Hulu, which Disney owns a majority stake. Apple could be in a similar bundling situation with its music, gaming, and news services.
