iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max: the most powerful and advanced smartphones
September 10th 2019
Apple today announced iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, a new pro line for iPhone that delivers advanced performance for users who want the very best smartphone. The new Super Retina XDR display is a pro display with the brightest display ever in an iPhone. The powerful Apple-designed A13 Bionic chip provides unparalleled performance for every task while enabling an unprecedented leap in battery life to easily get through the day. A new triple-camera system provides a pro-level camera experience with an Ultra Wide, Wide and Telephoto camera, delivering huge improvements to low-light photography and offering the highest quality video in a smartphone that is great for shooting action videos.
Apple repositioned its flagship phone as a professional device with the iPhone 11 Pro. Available in 5.8 and 6.5 Max configurations, the new iPhone line brings a number of improvements over the iPhone XS and XS Max.
The main feature appears to be a new three-camera configuration adding a new ultra-wide camera. The three cameras support a new low-light Night Mode and offer new possibilities for software photo compositions. The front-facing camera also got an upgrade to a 12 MP camera from 7, which now supports 4K and slow-motion video. The iPhone 11 Pro also has a new higher resolution Super Retina XDR display with the same pixel density as the previous model, but twice as high contrast ratio rating. It's also about 20 percent brighter.
Other highlights include faster Face ID with improved angle detection, up to 4 hours longer battery vs the Xs and 5 hours compared to the Xs Max. Water resistance has also improved with a rating of 4 meters for 30 minutes compared to 2 meters for 30 minutes.
One thing is taken away, however, is 3D is no longer supported. Instead the iPhone 11 Pro uses Haptic Touch.
Pricing for the iPhone 11 Pro is $999 and $1099 for the base 64 GB model. Apple will begin preorders on 9/13 at 8 AM ET with availably the following Friday 9/20. The pre-order time has changed for the first time in may years. If I recall, Apple moved it to 3 AM Eastern after a mid-day launch went poorly.
